Be Inspired
Times table practise is essential for all children from Year 1 to Year 6 (and beyond!). At Hythe we subscribe to Times Table Rockstars which can be found here. There is also an 'add-on' within this site called 'Numbots' which helps children to become more fluent with their general number facts.
At Hythe we also subscribe to Spelling Shed and pupils can all access the resources they need to practise their spellings at an age-appropriate level. You can find the login page for Spelling Shed here.
There are lots of other great websites available to support pupils who are working remotely. Here are some of them...
The Oak Academy Trust have lots of great resources to support learning remotely. The resources are organised into age groups to make them easier to find. Look at the topics being covered in each of our phases and click on the highlighted word to take you to those resources...
Year R: Our Year R children are just getting to know each other and their new environment. They are working on key skills such as sharing and friendship. Later on this half term they'll be using the stories Rainbow Fish and Little Red Hen to support their learning. Click on the titles to take a listen to these stories. Looking at the world around them is really important too. Children could look out of a window or go on a walk and draw a picture of the things they can see - what are people wearing? What do the trees look like? How would they describe the weather?
Years 1 and 2: This half term Years 1 and 2 are learning all about Kings, Queens and Castles. They could have a look at this virtual tour of Buckingham Palace, or maybe they could find out all about Queen Victoria and how she shaped Britain? There's lots of resources here to help!
Years 3 and 4: This half term, Years 3 and 4 are learning all about the Stone Age. They're reading Stone Age Boy - a video of the story can be found by clicking on the title. Children can use the format of the story to create a comic strip of what it might be like to land in the Stone Age! They could also investigate cave art by having a look at some of these great examples and trying to create some of their own.
Years 5 and 6: Year 5 and 6 pupils are all reading Kenzuke's Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo. They can remind themselves of the opening chapter by clicking here. Think about how well the front cover supports the story so far - what do you already know happens next? What do you think might happen next? Design a new front cover which fits everything you have learned so far.
They're also learning about 'Crime and Punishment' in history. This links well to our whole school assembly about Rule of Law. Can you find some funny laws that still exist in other countries (like our law about not walking your cow down the street between 10am and 7pm!)?
